What's the difference between a plant enzyme and a pancreatic enzyme?

Plant enzymes are naturally found in plants, and start working as soon as you start chewing your food. In supplement form, they are produced by various types of fungi. Pancreatic enzymes are normally produced by your pancreas and secreted into your small intestines, therefore they don't start working until after your stomach empties into the small intestines. Supplemental pancreatic enzymes are sourced from pigs, therefore not compatible with vegan or vegetarian diets.

What's the difference between taking plant enzymes or an antacid to get rid of indigestion?

Antacids can provide temporary symptomatic relief, but are actually negatively affecting your digestive function by bringing up the pH in your stomach. This decreases your absorption, without addressing the reason for the discomfort. Taking plant enzymes actually increases digestion, getting rid of the cause of the pain.

What does the pH range signify? Why is it so broad?

pH is the measurement of acid strength. Throughout your digestive tract, the pH varies, from pH of 2 in the stomach to pH of 8 in the duodenum. The large pH range of Organika's Full Spectrum Plant Enzymes allows them to work in many places throughout the digestive tract.

How else can I increase my nutrient absorption?

Eat mindfully. Stop and pay attention to the smells, get your mouth salivating. Chew, chew, chew. Eat slowly. Don't overdo liquid intake with food, but drink ample in between meals. Eat meals or snacks, but avoid grazing. Avoid eating at least 2 hours before bed, and take 12 hours off without food overnight. These are all simple techniques to help our digestive system turn on more effectively.

3 Ways to Support Your Gut Health with Bone Broth - Organika Health Products

So much of our health starts in our gut! We can attribute the health of our digestive system, immune system, mental health, hormonal health and more, to our gut. What Happens When the Gut Lining Is Damaged? Damage to the gut lining can occur as a result of inflammation, indigestion, and dysbiosis. Prolonged periods of any of these symptoms reduces the production of digestive enzymes, increases the potential of other digestive disturbances, and overtime causes physical damage to the intestinal walls. When the intestinal barrier weakens, food particles, hormones, and toxins leak through into the body. If these particles pass through, they are identified as invaders and can trigger further systemic disruption. How Bone Broth Repairs the Gut Bone broth is an amazing example of gut supportive nutrition! It is made by slowly simmering animal bones in water to extract nutrients into easily digestible and absorbable nutrition. This amino acid-rich broth assists the regeneration and repair of the tissues lining the digestive tract due to a high collagen and gelatin content. Collagen is a protein that is rich in 19 easily absorbable amino acids, most prominently; proline, arginine, and glycine. These amino acids are vital for maintaining the integrity of the digestive tract. Bone broth also contains the amino acid, l-glutamine. L-glutamine is especially good at rebuilding proteins and repairing the intestinal barrier, and is often supplemented on its own for this exact reason. Bone broth is known for it’s high l-glutamine content. The nutritional profile doesn’t stop there! Bone broth is rich in gut supportive nutrients like calcium, magnesium, potassium, phosphorus, selenium and zinc, as well as vitamins A, C and E. And it contains natural compounds, glucosamine, chondroitin sulfate and hyaluronic acid, which contribute to gut health by supporting the health of your microbiome. Bone broth is a great way to take in these nutrients due to its concentrated liquid form. And it is a clean source of protein, the essential macronutrient for cell regeneration! Choosing the Right Bone Broth Organika provides 3 delicious ways to support gut health. Our bone broths are clean, nutrient-dense and deliciously flavoured. Beef Bone Broth Organika beef bone broth comes in Original and Ginger flavours. It is a high protein, collagen-rich, low sodium alternative to regular beef broth. Always free of antibiotics and hormones, our beef broth comes from grass-fed cows in Sweden. We simmer the animal bones and connective tissues to extract the important gut supportive health benefits so that you don’t have to! 2. Chicken Bone Broth Our chicken bone broth comes in Original, Ginger and Turmeric flavours. It is a clean, single-ingredient broth powder sourced from cage-free USA chickens that are exclusively fed organic grain and are tested regularly for hormones, antibiotics, heavy metals or pesticides. It is a higher protein and collagen-rich alternative to regular chicken broth! As with our beef broth, it is rich in glucosamine, hyaluronic acid and chondroitin, compounds that reduce inflammation and joint pain, as well as support the repair of the digestive lining. 3. Veggie Broth For vegetarians and vegans, we have our veggie broth that is packed full of real organic vegetables, adaptogenic tremella mushrooms and nutritional yeast! Nutritional yeast is a source of complete protein. Protein is an essential macronutrient vital for enzyme and hormone production, as well as the repair and regeneration of every cell in the body. If you follow a vegetarian or vegan diet, you may be low in B vitamins. These water-soluble vitamins aren’t stored in the body and must be consumed on a regular basis. Our veggie broth is rich in B vitamins, vital for energy production, antioxidant action, and the building and repairing of DNA. Just like our other formulas, veggie broth also contains the gut supportive amino acid, l-glutamine, to maintain and support a healthy gut barrier! Heal Your Gut with Bone Broth Consuming this nutrient-dense, amino-acid rich product in a variety of dishes, on a daily basis, can help reduce inflammation, digestive disruptions and allergies, and thoroughly nourish your body in one quick scoop! The Difference Between Bone Broth and Collagen - Organika Health Products

“What’s the difference between bone broth and collagen?” It’s a question I often get asked by clients. The key differences are in the nutrient-profile and how they’re made. Let’s take a closer look. Bone Broth vs. Collagen You can think of bone broth as general overall support for the body. It contains a wealth of key nutrients, including proteins, like collagen, that are rich in important amino acids like glycine and glutamine. It also contains an array of minerals (i.e. calcium, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, potassium, sodium, and zinc). In addition, the process of simmering beef or chicken bones for a long period of time also releases glycosaminoglycans (GAGs), which are very beneficial for the joints. Bone broth is loaded with good stuff! Collagen is a protein found in bone broth, but it can also be isolated via a process called hydrolyzation which creates a more concentrated collagen powder supplement, such as the ones used in our Enhanced Collagen. This can be hugely beneficial because you get much bigger doses of collagen, and collagen-specific amino acids like glycine, glutamine, proline, hydroxyproline, and arginine. These amino acid “all-stars” are terrific for keeping joints healthy, your digestive system running on all cylinders and toning down your nervous system to support recovery. So now that you know that bone broth and collagen are good for you, the real question becomes: How do you know if you should take bone broth or collagen (or both)? Like choosing between a hammer and screwdriver, it depends on what YOU need. Should I take one of them or both? With my clients, I like to think of bone broth as a general tonic to support overall health. It gives you an added array of key nutrients to keep you feeling your best. It’s also a fantastic addition in the winter months to boost immunity, support your nervous system and feel your best in the darkest, coldest days. Collagen can also be used as a general tonic, but I tend to think of it for more specific concerns. For example, if you want to target your sore joints, help fix a leaky gut, improve sleep troubles or support skin health than a bigger dose of collagen-specific amino acids will likely be very helpful. Of course, you don’t necessarily have to choose between the two. My preferred mix is two scoops of Ginger Bone Broth and one scoop of Enhanced Collagen in the evening to wind down before bed. Organika's Bone Broth and Enhanced Collagen Organika’s Bone Broth is made from organic free-run chickens OR grass-fed cattle (depending on if you like chicken or beef). In either case there are no added antibiotics, hormones, or additives. You are getting pure, nutritious, protein-packed, delicious bone broth. There is also a Veggie Broth option made of tremella mushrooms and nutritional yeast. Organika’s Enhanced Collagen Original is made from grass-fed cattle and loaded with type-1 and type-3 collagen, which provides a load of support for joints, gut, hair, skin and nails. Together, you have a full-spectrum support and highly absorbable forms of collagen. Want to take them together? Try our Full Spectrum Collagen 1,2,3 (a mix of both collagen and bone broth). Bone broth and collagen are great additions to your nutritional arsenal, find the right mix to suit your goals! Dr. Marc Bubbs ND, CISSN, CSCS
