Do I have high levels of heavy metals? Where do they come from and what do they do to impede my health?

We are exposed to heavy metals through many of our everyday activities. Here are just a few: food, drink, drug and cigarette additives and preservatives; pesticides and other food production chemicals; personal care products and cosmetics (like aluminum in antiperspirants); air pollution (like from coal burning); water pollution and contaminated seafood; cookware; older paint and water pipes; dental work and tattoo ink. They can be pervasive in your life! Heavy metals can be stored in your tissues and organs like your brain and bones, cause damage to your cells and DNA, and interfere with enzyme and hormone reactions. Besides recognizing and decreasing exposures, supplementing with heavy metal chelators like chlorella or cilantro can aid in their removal from the body.

I already take spirulina. Do I also need chlorella?

These are two fantastic algaes, and have a few different strengths. Spirulina is a higher density of protein and can help with digestion, while chlorella shines in detoxification, as an iron source, and for its anti-aging properties. So depending on your symptoms and goals, one or both of these algaes may be perfect for you!

Is it better to take chlorella in powder or tablet form?

Itís a personal preference. In powder form, you can incorporate it into many types of food and beverages, and treat it a little more like a ëfunctional foodí. Chlorella though has a strong algae-like taste, so tablets are a way to get all the benefits and avoid the taste. It does take six tablets to get the same quantity as a 1 teaspoon serving of powder so that can be a factor for some. You can also chew the tablets to aid with dental detoxification and help reprogram over-sugared tastebuds. So really itís up to you!

It also provides a base of healthy fats, featuring walnuts and hemp seeds for that omega-3 anti-inflammatory action. They are totally gluten-free, vegan and raw, to be enjoyed by all! INGREDIENTS 1 cup medjool dates, chopped 1 cup walnuts ½ cup coconut flakes, unsweetened 2 tbsp hemp seeds 2 tbsp, fresh lemon juice 2 tbsp nut milk or coconut milk 1 tbsp Chlorella DIRECTIONS 1.Toss the walnuts and dates into a food processor or high-powered blender and pulse until broken down into small pieces. 2.Add the remaining ingredients and process until smooth. You may need to scrape down the sides a few times until you get the right texture. 3.Scoop out a spoonful of the mixture at a time, depending on how large you want the bites, and roll into a ball. Place in an airtight container. Do this until you have several little balls and you’ve used up the mixture. 4.Place the container in the fridge for at least 2 hours to let the balls set. Enjoy as a tasty superfood treat when you need an extra dose of energy! CHLORELLA SEED BARS MAKES: 6 bars This is an easy to make, chlorella packed, energy bar that will fuel your day the right way. It is completely gluten free, refined sugar free, raw and vegan. INGREDIENTS ½ cup pistachios ½ cup pumpkin seeds ¾ cup shredded coconut ¼ cup hemp hearts ¼ cup coconut oil 1 tsp chlorella powder ¾ cup dates, chopped ½ lime, juiced ½ lemon, juiced ½ grapefruit, juiced DIRECTIONS 1.In a food processor or high-powered blender, pulse all ingredients until the mixture combines 2.Press into a square pan or dish and chill in the fridge for at least an hour. Slice and serve! MEAN GREEN PISTACHIO BARS MAKES: 10 squares This recipe is also totally gluten-free, refined sugar free, raw and vegan. It provides plenty of healthy fats that will keep you full and bust cravings. Plus, of course, it gives you a decent dose of chlorella to boost nutrient density and superfood power! This serves as a decadent dessert or a delicious breakfast bar! INGREDIENTS CRUST 10 pitted medjool dates 1/3 cup raw pistachios 1 tbsp raw cacao powder 1 tbsp hemp seeds 1 tbsp chia seeds ½ tsp chlorella powder Pinch of Himalayan pink salt FILLING 2 ripe avocados, pitted ½ cup raw cashews 1 cup coconut butter ¼ cup hemp milk 1 tbsp raw honey ½ tsp chlorella powder ¼ tsp vanilla extract TOPPING Raw pistachios, chopped Raw cacao nibs DIRECTIONS 1.For the crust, pulse the pistachios in a food processor or high-powered blender until they start to form flour. 2.Add other crust ingredients and blend until everything is well combined. You may need to scrape the sides down a few times but it will get there. The texture should be smooth and sticky, if the paste is too dry, add extra dates. 3.Press the mixture into the bottom of a square pan and let set in the fridge while working on the filling. 4.To make the filling, throw all ingredients into your food processor or high-powered blender and blend until smooth and creamy. 5.Spread the filling evenly onto your crust and top with chopped pistachios and cacao nibs or topping of your choice! 6.Place the pan back in the fridge and let sit for 3-4 hours.
