Why is fibre important? - Organika Health Products

Fibre, sometimes affectionately referred to as roughage, sounds like it is not the most exciting topic in nutrition, but if only you knew how much it can benefit you! What is fibre? Fibre is molecularly a carbohydrate that your body does not fully break down in the digestive tract. It can be grouped into 2 categories: Soluble and insoluble. Examples of foods that contain soluble fibre are things like fruit, oats, barley, and legumes. Examples of foods that contain insoluble fibre are vegetables, wheat, and most grains. What are the benefits of fibre? HEALTHY ELIMINATION Insoluble fibre and some soluble fibre has the capacity to hold water and help make stools bulkier and softer, helping with constipation. Dietary fibre in general can help speed up the transit time of intestinal contents in those with initially slow transit time, and can slow transit time in people with initially rapid initial transit time. Thus, it can also help with those with chronic diarrhea. Soluble fibre combines with liquid so it is like a gel, and this slows your stomach emptying and can help decrease over eating and help with weight loss or maintaining a healthy weight. SUPPORTS DETOXIFICATION Fibre helps binds toxins in your guts and then carries them out to eliminate them. As it supports regularity of your bowel movements, it is supporting one of your body’s detoxification processes. DECREASES UNHEALTHY CHOLESTEROL LEVELS Soluble fibres may lower cholesterol levels by increasing bile acid which help breakdown and excrete excess cholesterol. FEEDS GUT BACTERIA The benefits of supporting healthy gut bacteria are vast, from supporting digestion, immunity, and even mental health. Your healthy gut flora, both quantity, and varieties, thrive when you have a high fiber diet, which is rich in food that your probiotics feed on, called prebiotics. This form of fiber is what you can find in Organika’s Mylks series. DIABETES Both types of fibre delay glucose absorption from the small intestine, and so it is useful for preventing and treating diabetes. Both type 1 and type 2 diabetes can benefit from a diet high in fibre, even possibly reducing or discontinuing anti-diabetes medication as a result of improved blood sugar control. How much fibre do you need? It is preferable in most cases to obtain fibre from diet, so increasing whole foods (i.e. the whole rice grain, not ground up or as rice pasta for example) and lots of fruits and vegetables is a great start. When it comes to supplementing fibre with certain preparations it depends on what type you are using and the condition it is being used for. Some points to keep in mind It is important to consider that not all fibre intake will benefit everyone in every circumstance. It is important to listen to your body, and if you are finding that higher fibre is irritating, it could be due to a gut “imbalance” which will need to be addressed and corrected first before making fibre a priority. Everyone is different.

Digestion Woes? We Have Relief. - Organika Health Products

Introducing Digest Relief by Organikawith Ginger and Activated Charcoal Ditch the digestive pain! Digestion issues can vary from an upset stomach, to lack of appetite, nausea, digestive spasms, and indigestion. Those that experience digestive issues know it can be extremely uncomfortable, and let’s face it, who has time for that? Luckily, there is relief and a natural way to combat digestion issues carefully, effectively, and efficiently. Let’s be honest, we all need this from time to time. Digest Relief to the rescue. Organika has created Digest Relief which combines Ginger and Activated Charcoal. This formula is the sigh of relief your digestive tract will breathe and will love you for. It helps to alleviate the pain and discomfort that comes along with any digestive issues. The product is made free of preservatives, artificial sweeteners, colours or flavours, so there is nothing but goodness in a bottle. Let’s break it down. Organika's® Digest Relief™ Ginger with Activated Charcoal is formulated with 25mg of Ginger 20:1 Extract and contains 250mg of Activated Charcoal. Why Ginger and Activated Charcoal? Ginger has long been used in both traditional and alternative medicine as a digestive aid and to reduce nausea. It also has amazing anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects, hence why you may also see it being used for the cold and flu. The main active compound in ginger, gingerol, helps to empty the stomach and this helps to alleviate indigestion and any stomach discomfort. Activated Charcoal has recently been popularized in masks and beauty products, but did you know that it’s been used in traditional medicine for acute remedies related to digestion? First off, the charcoal is “activated” with oxygen which expands the charcoal so we can get to the carbon inside. To this, the nasty toxins bind to the charcoal, then get absorbed and get carried out of the body. The result is a toxin-free, clean, and healthy system. So, it makes sense that activated charcoal is great for indigestion, flatulence, bloating, and you guessed it... detox! Don’t Let Digestion Get You Down Again Beat your digestive issues, feel your best and get back to doing what you love daily. Digest Relief comes in convenient V-caps, so you can consume with water, for fast absorption and release. Suggested Use: Pair with Probiotic + Prebiotic Powder which feeds the healthy bacteria in the gut. Clean and alleviate your digestive system with Digest Relief, while Probiotics + Prebiotics take care of the gut ongoing. Shop New Digest Relief

Does collagen play a role in gut health? - Organika Health Products

The short answer, yes. Collagen plays a role in gut health. As you age all body functions start to decrease or slow down. This includes digestion for some. The muscles of the digestive tract may become weaker. The production of key digestive enzymes may decrease, but also the lining of the gut may become more permeable (easier to attack or get through). When your gut is unhealthy it can lead to various symptoms: mood disorders, decreased immunity, weight gain, just to name a few. Here's why you should take collagen supplements to help heal your gut or increase its strength. How does collagen help improve gut health? Collagen has a rich amino acid profile, many of which have been studied to support gut health by reducing inflammation and healing the gut. Collagen is high in Glutamine, which helps build connective tissues and heal the gut’s lining. This has been shown to be helpful in those with compromised intestinal permeability (leaky gut). Glutamine has been linked to improving the gut’s microbiota which helps to keep the digestive tract running smoothly and makes it stronger to avoid injury, wounds, or damage under stress. Glycine and proline, also found in collagen, work to help seal and heal the gut lining whenever there is damage. This improves digestion. Arginine is another amino acid involved in wound healing in the gut. Because collagen contains all these essential amino acids, a hydrolyzed collagen peptide supplement daily can help build a stronger and healthier digestive tract. Is collagen more important than gelatin – or is it the same? Gelatin is essentially the cooked version of collagen. They both provide the same amino acids and provide the same benefits. However, collagen, like our Enhanced Collagen Original, is hydrolyzed (broken down into smaller peptides), whereas gelatin is not. It's better to take collagen to ensure you are obtaining all benefits. Your body can skip the step of having to break it down, making collagen much easier to absorb. Collagen also easily dissolves in water and is a lot more convenient to use. Should I take collagen powder or bone broth for gut health? Either or both. Collagen powder can help support gut health (described above due to its amino acid profile). With that being said, bone broth contains collagen and gelatin. So, you can heal your gut with Organika’s Bone Broth Powder as well. The bonus of bone broth is that it contains additional essential minerals that also work to heal the gut’s intestinal lining and reduce inflammation. Bone broth is a highly beneficial source of nutrition. Both collagen and bone broth are great options, so the choice really depends on your preference. Organika does have an option to maximize this: Full Spectrum Collagen 1,2,3. This product combines chicken bone broth, bovine collagen, and marine collagen – making it a mix of all types of collagens.
